Photonic Wave Imager (PWI) uses unique Australian-led photonic technology to achieve exquisitely high angular resolution and high-contrast imaging for exoplanet, stellar and active galactic nuclei science. The instrument has attracted significant interest from teams building extreme AO systems for Subaru and GMT, as well as keen interest from the Asgard instrument team on ESO’s Very Large Telescope Interferometer (VLTI). This project will build PWI for ESO’s VLTI to enhance the Asgard suite, plus additionally GMT has requested that a PWI instrument be first demonstrated on Magellan before being built for the GMT. Three PWI instrument copies will therefore come from this project.
